Married c1708 to Grace, surname unknown. She was born about 1681 in England (ref her age at death). Samuel was mentioned in Chamond's Will dated 18 Mar 1712/13. Grace was buried 21 Jun 1760 at Kilkhampton, Cornwall, the wife of Samuel yeoman (ref Cornwall OPC). Ref Kilkhampton Bishop's Transcript: Buried 1760, Grace, wife of Samuel Cornish, Yeoman, June (date obscured). The LDS tape 476219 (monumental inscriptions at Kilkhampton) has CORNISH, Grace, w of Samuel Cornish of Stibb. Burd. Jun 21, 1760 age 79; and also Samuel, s. of above Samuel and Grace, burd. August 27, 1759 age 39. Samuel was buried 10 May 1765 at Kilkhampton, his residence Stibb, occupation Yeoman (ref Cornwall OPC). Will dated (before death) 8 March 1765. Will proved (after death) 22 May 1765. Will mentions 5 of the 6 children. A partial transcription of the Will is as follows: "To son Daniel Cornish the Hanging Press, the Chest in the Broad Chamber and the Bedsteads in the same, the clock, Dresser, Long Table Board, Moonstone trough in the cellar, Chest in the Barn and all Plough Tackle. To son Philip Cornish Moonstone trough in the Brew House, Hand Malt Mill and 1/- [one shilling]. To daughter Grace Ashton 1/-. To son-in-law William Boundy 1/-. There are two John Cornishes of very similar ages in Poughill (1687 and 1690, see next page). John was mentioned in Chamond's Will dated 18 Mar 1712/13. There are two probable burials, one on 8 Aug 1741 and one on 24 Sep 1745 but no further information is given on the burials (ref Cornwall OPC Database for both and the parish record for the second in Family Search Record Collection for Poughill, page 115). One of them is presumed to have married Martha Martyn; she was bap 1695 which is closer in age to the one on the next page so I have placed that marriage there. |
