Birth of Emily Watson 7 Jan 1820 at Buntingford, parish Widdial, Hertfordshire, registered 16 Oct 1835 with Dr Williams' Library Registry, dau of John Watson, and Ann, daughter of William Bray; witnesses Elizabeth Chamberlain, Elizabeth Bray (ref Ancestry England & Wales Non-Conformist & Non-Parochial Registers).
Note that she was born the day after the previous 5 children were registered with Dr Williams, however, she and her sister Sarah weren't registered with Dr Williams until 1835.

Not identified in 1841 census, but she may have been the one living at Loraine Place, St Mary Islington West, age 25, independent, not born in Middlesex, with James Browning (56), Merchant, and his daughter Maria.

Marr 25 Jan 1851 at the parish church of St George Bloomsbury, Middlesex, to William Henry GROCOCK.
The marriage was registered Mar qtr 1851 at St Giles District (ref original indexes). William was a bachelor of full age, profession Traveller, his residence being 5 Amelia Place, New Cross. He was born 1822 in London. See Grocock tree.

Emily was a spinster of full age, her residence being 30 Great Russell St. Her father was John Watson, Gentleman. The witnesses were H S Watson (possibly her cousin Henry Sparkes Watson, or else a misprint for Sarah Susan) and E H Wood ie Edward Henry Wood, Emily's brother in law (All details from marriage certificate.)

William, Emily and daughter Kate arrived in Victoria, Australia by unassisted passage on the vessel "Sussex" in Nov 1855.

Emily died 24 Dec 1857 at Windsor, Vic (Vic reg 6222), bur 25 Dec 1857 at St Kilda Cemetery, C of E B No 26.
She died by accident, the cause being 'accidentally burnt' - Coroner, Melbourne.

William married a second time, and died in 1873.

In Percival Serle's autobiography, he describes how he and his family spent from late 1884 to the end of 1885 in England and Europe. They made their headquarters with 'an aunt of my mother's, Mrs. Wood, their house was just outside the Harrow-Weald station on the London and North-Western railway about 11 miles from London...it was then lovely pastoral country'. The name 'Harrow' was used later for the Serle houses in Melbourne.
