James, of Barrett Grove, died 9 June 1854 in Hackney, London, and was buried on 17 June 1854 in Abney Park Trust Cemetery, Hackney (ref Abney Park records). The Times of 13 June 1854 (page 1, col A) reported 'On the 9th inst., at 1, Barrett-grove, Stoke Newington, of chronic bronchitis, James Cazaly, Esq., aged 76, upwards of 60 years clerk in the house of Messrs. Doxat and Co., merchants.' (Going by the dates he was actually 74.) A notice appeared in the Times: "MR. JAMES CAZALY, formerly of Claremont Cottage, and late of No. 1, Barrett-grove, Stoke Newington, Middlesex, died in June, 1854. - Any person who may possess or who can give any INFORMATION respecting any WILL, Money, or other Property of the deceased, are requested to send the same to his widow, Mrs. Cazaly, of No. 1, Barrett-grove, Stoke Newington; or to communicate with her, or her solicitors, Messrs. Elizabeth and daughter Catherine arrived at Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, approx 1856 (the year obtained from her death certificate) and then lived at Mount Weatherboard near Ballarat (ref Ballarat Star newspaper 26/10/1903 which incorrectly stated that the husband James also arrived; he had already died in London.) Her son Henry purchased a block of land at Weatherboard Hill, Parish of Burrumbeet, Shire of Ballarat (Allotment 6, Section C) at the land sales in 1857. All of the children except the two eldest, Charles and Charlotte, emigrated to Australia, but the exact emigration dates are not known. It seems most likely that the family came out in several groups. Firstly, Peter and Henry in either 1854 or 1855 but definitely by mid 1855, as there was a letter waiting for Henry then in Melbourne GPO. Then Owen and John who are probably the passengers listed as arriving on the vessel New Great Britain on 23 Feb 1856. Following this, Elizabeth and the remaining children Catherine, James and Elizabeth arrived during the same year. In a list of unclaimed letters at the Ballarat Post Office for 1st September 1857, both Mrs Cazaly and E Cazaly (probably daughter Elizabeth) are listed. (ref Trove, The Star Ballarat, Tues 1 Sep 1857). In the 1861 Ballarat directory the Cazaly family, Mrs Cazaly and various children, are listed as living at Drummond Street - Mrs Cazaly, J Cazaly, John Cazaly, H Cazaly, O Cazaly, P Cazaly. Elizabeth's address was Drummond Street, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, at her death. Elizabeth died 3 Aug 1863 at Ballaarat West, Victoria, Australia (Vic reg 5762), buried Ballaarat Old Cemetery (grave AN/7/4 with no headstone). She died of phthisis; her son Owen was the informant; the witnesses to her burial were her son in law William Little and her son Peter Cazaly, and all nine children were listed as living, with their ages (ref Death Certificate). Also buried in her grave in 1889 was her infant great-grandson, William Fitzgerald Cazaly (son of William and grandson of Peter). Elizabeth and James (Jaques) had 9 children.
