(William) CAZALY Born 19 Feb 1769; bap 18 Mar 1769 at Threadneedle Street French Huguenot London (ref IGI). On this tree I previously had a marriage to Mary Parkes and 4 children from 1810 to 1815 in Birmingham. It is more likely by the dates and the place that this was Guillaume born 1781, son of Guillaume Cazaly and Mary Lamy, as listed in Gen 4. In Ancestry London Wills 1525-1828, the following Will is found, signed 21st April 1792 and registered as 9th July 1793: "In the Name of God Amen I William Cazaly Now on board bound in the good Ship Thetis Captn Justinian Nutt Comm. being in bodily Health and of sound and disposing Mind and Memory and considering the Perils and Dangers of the Seas and other Uncertainties of this transitory Life (do for avoiding controversies after my decease) make, publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following (That is to say) First I recommend my Soul to God that gave it, and my Body I commit to the Earth or Sea as it shall please God to Order and as for and concerning all my worldly Estate I give bequeath and dispose thereof as followeth. That is to say all my Wages, Sum and Sums of Money, Lands, Tenements, Goods, Chattels and Estate whatsoever as shall be any ways due owing or belonging unto me at the time of my decease I do give devise and bequeath the same unto my loving Mother Susannah Cazaly of the parish of St Leonard Shoreditch Middlesex. And I do hereby nominate and appoint the above Susannah Cazaly my sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Wills, Testaments and Deeds of Gifts by me at any time heretofore made And I do ordain and ratify these Presents to stand and be for and as my only last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof to this my said Will, I have set my Hand & Seal the Twenty first Day of April in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety two And in the Thirty Second Year of the Reign of his Majesty King George The Third over Great Britain etc. Signed sealed published and declared in the present of John Brown (his signature), James Jones (his signature) Wm Cazaly (his signature)" Presumably William had died by 9th July 1793. The full text of the 'list of factory records of the late East India Company preserved in the Record Department of the India Office, London" is available under www.archive.org ("Internet Archive"). This document makes several references to the ship Thetis and its Commander, Justinian Nutt, in 1788, 1790 and 1791, en route to Bombay and Whampoa or similar places. It is reasonable to assume that William was employed by the East India Company in 1792. No mention is found of what happened to him. |
