They had two children, Edward Frank John Marten Shewell in 1865, and Beatrice Mary Shewell in 1867.

The Reverend Frank Shewell made petition for divorce from Mary Jane Shewell in 1867 on the grounds of her adultery with John Joseph Paterson Fox, and this was granted. (ref Ancestry England & Wales Civil Divorce Records)

Mary Jane retained the name Shewell. She died 1 Jan 1884.

He was buried at Mt Somers Cemetery, South Canterbury, NZ, his spouse Mary Jane Eaden, who died 1959 (ref Ancestry New Zealand Cemetery Records).
"At Ruapuna on Saturday afternoon an old resident, Mr Charles Edward Eaden, was found lying dead in a paddock of his farm with the top of his head shattered as the result of the discharge of a shotgun which was found lying on his body. At an inquest which was opened yesterday before the District Coroner (Mr J. Cow) evidence was given that when Eaden went out from breakfast on Saturday morning he appeared in a normal state of health. However, when he did not return to dinner a search was made and the body was found. Evidence of identification was given by Charles [prob. Edward] Wright Eaden. The inquest was adjourned."
