BURMAN Born 7 Mar 1727 at Tanworth (ref MFT). Bap 20 Mar 1727 at Tanworth, Warwick (ref IGI). Residence c1735 Botley, England. Residence c1747 Kemp's Green farm. Marr 1 May 1747 in Ullenhall Chapel, Wootton Wawen to Mary INSULL (ref FMT; out of range of IGI). Mary was bap 19 Feb 1717 at Tanworth Church (dau of Richard Insull and Mary unknown) (ref The Burman Chronicle but omitted from IGI). Mary's family was from Light Hall, and through her, John became possessed of extensive landed properties (ref R.H.Burman monograph) Residence c1750 Lady Lane at Light Hall. John Burman became the tenant of his brother-in-law. John died 1781. John's death: Tanworth Churchyard monument: (Lady Lane family) "John Burman, Lady Lane, died December 28, 1781, aged 51." (ref R.H.Burman monograph) Mary died 1785. Mary's death: Tanworth Churchyard monument: (Lady Lane family) "Mary, wife of John Burman, Lady Lane, died 11 March, 1785, aged 66." (ref R.H.Burman monograph) They were the great-grandparents of Richard Hugh Burman of Sutton Coldfield, the author of a monograph. John left a Will. In it, John Burman "of Tanworth Gentleman" appointed as executors his widow and youngest son, Thomas. FROM WHOM FRED SHADE IS DESCENDED. |

BURMAN Known as "Of Henley". Born 1744 at Botley, England. Bap Wootton Wawen, Warwick (ref MFT). Marr 1 Jan 1776 at Wootton Wawen, Warwick to Sarah BLESSLEY (ref IGI). Her name is given as Sarah Allen Blessley (ref MFT). Thomas' occupation was Doctor at Henley-in-Arden. He established the private asylum at Henley-in-Arden which was formerly conducted at Burman House, probably one of the houses which Thomas inherited from his father. Attached to this house is a smaller one known as Burman Cottege, by the side of which runs a lane, which was formerly bridged, thus connecting up a larger house on the north side of the lane, the whole constituting the asylum. Mentioned in his father's Will 1757 from which he inherited two houses and a garden at Henley (ref Burman Chronicles). He filled the office of High Bailiff 1777 to 1778 Henley-in-Arden (ref Burman Chronicles). Thomas died 1822, buried 1822 at Beaudesert Churchyard, England (ref MFT). |

BURMAN Born 1747 (ref MFT). Marr 2 Apr 1766 in Snitterfield, Warwick to Elizabeth WEBB (ref LDS member in IGI). Richard died 1830, buried Wootton Wawen churchyard (ref MFT). Mentioned in his father's will 1767 from which he inherited a house and garden in Tanworth on the death of his mother in 1791. Additionally (presumably in 1767) he inherited four closes of land known as Heathfields, part of the Court land (ref Burman Chronicles). Occupation: Richard was an active man in his parish, and many times served as Chapelwarden, Overseer of the Poor in Wootton Wawen. He was a Constable of Ullenhall. (ref Burman Chronicles) |
